doesn't look back
and dives headfirst
into concrete.

even after you walk down the stairs
and out the back way
so you don't have to be
witness to your accomplice

you know it's still there

after the gore gets cleaned up

the memory
electrocutes your veins

& at the rift in your heart
you sit
swinging your feet (distance lies)

the same mess

right there in your chest
